I bought a quart of Valspar brand Zinc Chromate primer at a local farm and home center (Mills Fleet Farm) for $19.99. The instructions call for thinning with Valspar Vinyl Solvent. In looking at the contents this primer contains Toluene which is sold in the paint department as a thinner. I would bet you could use this to thin it - but I don't know for sure.
