Hi Terry,
Thank you for all of your input, I really appreciate it. To better explain what I am proposing…..picture the little triangle seat in front then the first two full bench seats (I have four bench seats). I am proposing to sit the deck ontop of the triangle seat and front 2 bench seats( so I won’t need side support, as the seats will give this). What I was going to to do is just support the middle between the three seats with joist hangers and 2x4’s. Of course the 2x4’s will be flush with the top of the seats. I am not a riveter so I would be apprehensive in riveting holes into the hull of my boat (although I think I can probably do it if I had to). This way I am only riveting the seat sides for the joist hangers and then screwing the carpeted deck to the 2x4’s. Do you see any flaws in this design? That is why I was asking about the strength of rivets. Another advantage of the center 2x4 beams is that I can mount the base hardware for my forward swivel seat on them with just the circular pole extending through the deck. The weight isn’t a problem I fish by myself 99% of the time, every now and again my GF comes in my boat but she likes to kayak. Your aluminum idea does sound like a way to go though if there is a glitch in my way…..can you think of any? Would pop rivets work in my application and what size? And if you can think of anything else I’d appreciate the advice. I would use your application before I would have to take my seats and flotation out to rivet. Thanks again.
Glenn
