Bearing Buddy and repacking of wheel bearings[Aluminum Boat and Repair Board ] [F A Q ] Posted byTim in OH (63.210.225.143) on April 07, 2002 at 13:18:07:
![]() I bought a 12 ft. 1971 Blue Fin boat and 1967 Johnson Motor two years ago. The trailer (a 1987) wheel hubs had Bearing Buddies on them when I bought it. I have lubed the BB three to four times over the past two seasons. I've only taken the boat out 4 times or so each season, to distances of no more than 40 miles round trip. My question is, do I need to pull the Bearing Buddies off, clean and repack the wheel bearings? The official Bearing Buddy web site seems to discourage you from removing the BBs to clean the hubs. The encourage you to merely keep the hubs under pressure at all times. I've removed the wheels and feel no play or wobble in the hubs. What are your recommendations?
