Re: Bearing Buddy and repacking of wheel bearings[Aluminum Boat and Repair Board ] [F A Q ] Posted byBob McM. (198.81.17.33) on April 07, 2002 at 19:44:47: I have had far more trouble over the years with trailer bearing than any other marine related item. I now carry a spare trailer hub with bearings on all trips. With that said, do you launch in fresh or salt water? If fresh, you can probably go a long time before checking them, I'd guess three or four years (maybe more). If salt water, I'd keep a closer eye on them. Jack up the trailer and spin the wheels. If it sounds like gravel and feels loose, check them. If you pull them apart and the bearings look ok, then repack the bearings and replace the inner seal. The majority of the trailer problems I had were because I replaced the Bearing Buddy (or a similar brand) and they fell off. If you reuse them, keep a close watch the first couple of trips to make sure they don't fall off.-- Bob McM
