I was talking with Tom Martin, President and general manager of www.pescamexicana.com about Tarpon fishing. Tom lives in Tulum, Mexico and runs a guide fishing service in Cozumel with Gabrial Diaz Medina. Tom told me he thought the best Tarpon fishing was up at San Felipe de Yucatan at the top of the Yucatan peninsula on the Rio Lagartos. He said the trips always yielded 20 pound plus Tarpon and his friends went home extremely happy. Tom has an arrangement with a local hotel for lodging (really nice clean rooms) and you are on your own for evening meals but finding a good meal at down home cheap prices is not difficult in San Felipe. I spent several days there this year with Gabrial, scouting and learning the water, and the Tarpon were plentiful. Tom told me they will be offering guided Tarpon trips in 2005 and I am already on the list. Will keep you posted.
