Ray, the two most important things to consider are number of pixels and watts of power. The power finds the fish better for you and the number of pixels help to display in a way that's more easily discernable to the viewer. 240 Vertical pixels are good but these days you can get 480 vertical pixels at a good prices. If you are fishing deeper then 20 feet it's best to go greater then 2500 peak to peak watts of power. A reall good 9 reasonably priced locater is the Lowrance X135 with 480 Vertical pixels and 4000 watts of power.
