I recommend starting with the easiest first. The fact that the problem occurred immediately after switching tanks is highly suspicious and could indicate water/crud in the tank. Enough water ingested into the cylinders will preclude ignition, but oil injection continues, hence fouling the plugs and producing the oil/water emulsion you saw. Clean plugs and start up with different (clean) fuel supply to see if she runs right.
Water condenses within partially filled fuel tanks (hence the reason aircraft are normally parked fuel-full). If it is a portable tank, drain completely rinsing with gasoline or alcohol. If it is a permannent tank, utilize the water-absorbing additives per instructions.
