The RD18 is just about bullet proof. The basic design dates to circa 1951.And continued into the
70s.About the only weak point is coil failure with age. These parts and other routine parts are readily available at any number of places, Dealers and even NAPA auto parts. The first thing you must have is a service manual a factory manual is best but an after market manual will serve you well.A typical aftermarket manual covers 56-70 motors. These are also available at NAPA.or sometimes the library. The motors are relatively simple to work on
we used to manage simple stuff with pliers, screwdriver and a crescent wrench. If the condition is unknown to you the safest thing is to replace the impeller, and change the gear lube before any serious use. Before attemting any repairs check out that manual.Feel free to ask any questions.
