I don't see how the prop assembly could cause the motor to overheat. Overheating is usually caused by a faulty water pump, so check that. And by the way, the transom is the back part of the boat where the motor clamps to.
The gearcase is where the lowerunit oil is. If there is water in there, you have a bad seal.
