OK, if I recall correctly, there's more than 6 bolts holding this lower unit on. As mentioned in an earlier post, there's a bolt under the trim tab. And maybe a bolt just forward of the trim tab, facing upwards. Been a while since I've messed with one of these.

If you're posilutely, absotively sure that ALL the bolts are gone and you have an equidistant gap between all portions of the lower unit and center section, it's time to use wedges. On both sides, and at both the forward and aft ends of the lower unit. You'll probably want to get at least 4 wedges, and probably 8 because if you have a 'difficult' one, you'll end up stacking one wedge on top of the other.
