Yes, there is a rubber gasket in there that seals the glass sediment bowl. Maybe you just need to tighten up the bottom thumbscrew on the 'yoke' that holds the sediment bowl to the filter adapter.

I just worked on an old 18 hp which blew gas all over when I squeezed the primer bulb, tightened up the thumbscrew a bit and that cured the problem.

You may want to take the filter assy apart and check out that gasket. If it's out of position, that could be the cause of your leak.
