I had posted this earlier, but... I'm hoping that you can lend me a hand since you were so helpful before.
I'm buying a sizeable cabin boat with an I/O drive. I know that the ignition relay and the starter motor are toast, but was wondering if there was a way to turn the motor, by hand, to see if it is toast (locked up), too.
I tried turning the prop by hand with it in gear, but the prop just turned freely in Forward and with a little clanking in Reverse. Is this normal — turning easily when in gear? I know it isn't for outboards, but I'm new to the I/O set-up.
The boat needs a fair amount of work as it is (new decking, some wiring, lots of TLC, etc.), but I just hope the engine & outdrive are servicable. The person I'm buying it from never used it in the 4 years she had it, but was under the impression that it ran when she bought it.
