Talking about the crankshaft seal area? Merc does sell a stainless steel sleeve that taps over the end of the crankshaft and provides a new surface for the crank seals to ride upon.

The sleeve comes with instructions as to its installation. Basically you put a bit of Loctite Red or Blue on the crank and tap the sleeve on with a mallet and wooden block.

You do have to take a lot of care to get the sleeve straight on the shaft, but other than that the installation is pretty straightforward.

If you don't care to delve into that, you could probably get the dlr to install the sleeve for a nominal fee.
