50 hp == 50 hp. The NOA standard has require that H.P. be rated at the prop - since 1933.

The differences you will experience with a newer motor of the same H.P. (besides that the newer one is not tired and worn), are brought on by advancements in ignition, injection and exhaust management. Those technologies ensure consistency of performance no matter what environmental conditions are. They have greater fuel efficiency and a smoother power curve.
