Currently running a '59 18hp Sea Horse on my '61 Starcraft Jet - 15', until I spun the prop.

Went to my local dealer to get hooked up with a new Tohatsu motor. He said either the 18 or 25 hp 4 stroke would do me fine, and I agree.

The ol' battlehorse pushes my boat along pretty good, but I'd like some increase in speed. A definate difference is felt when there's more than 1 person in the boat.

I know about the differences between the 2 and 4 strokes, and all that, but what will a new 18hp do as far as out performaing the old one? I mean, 18 hp is 18 hp, right?

The 18 has a weight of 115 lbs, while the 25 weighs approx 150. The old Johnson doesn't weigh as much as either. Can my boat support the weight? Sales guy couldn't tell me, but I know theboat is rated for a 50hp.

Alternatively, I can go with a 25hp 2-stroke, which I know will give me better performance. Finding one will be the trick.

I know there are a lot of variables. Although I trust my sales guy, I just wanted to get some input from folks who've had "on-water" experience with these.

Thanks!
Rick
