I have a 40 hp Johnson motor (model # 40E 72E)(serial # J3623698)(operating range 4000 - 5000 r.p.m. 40 hp at 4500 r.p.m.) that was given to me, I would like to know the year it was made and also haveing trouble getting it to fire up. I'm getting power to the solenoid where the battery contects and the top two point when the key switch is in the start postion. (check with a light tester) at the other end where the power gose out to the starter I'm not getting power from the solenoid. I have purchase a new key switch and a new solenoid. I im using a regular car batter to see if it'll start, could a car batter not have enough amps to go threw the solenoid? Where could I get a wire diagram as well to see if everything is wired correctly?
