First thing you need is a service manual After market manuals are readily available on the net
various book stores Ebay etc.You can also find them at the library. Most manuals will show you the wiring.Any good battery will do.Be sure you use an outboard key switch. If the solinoid clicks and there is no power to the starter then the solinoid may be bad.Be sure all connections are clean and tight especially the grounds. There is a safety circuit that disables the solinoid if the shift is not in neutral or throttle is advanced too far. This may be in the shift box or on the
throttle/spark control under the hood.
