Set the flywheel on the crankshaft taper and rap it down with a hardwood block or similar around the hub. Then try to pull the flywheel off by lifting straight up. It should not come off easily without rapping it because it is locked to the taper. If is does come off easily without rapping the the taper fit is not correct. Remove the flywheel key and apply some fine laping compound to the crank taper. Put the flywheel on and rotate it back and forth to lap the fit. Clean both the flywheel hole and the crank and try the fit again. If it is not correct so that it will lock on the taper the flywheel key will almost always shear. The key is for location not for driving the flywheel.
