Check the black wire which goes from the points to the CDI box. This wire supplies the signal to the box and it's common for it to break in the middle. Then when you advance the timing the wire gets pulled on and loses continuity.

You can do a 'pull test' on the wire and see if it parts when you pull on it. Or do a resistance check.

If that's not it, check your points, they should be cleaned and gapped to .010" if I recall. Check your manual to be sure.
