Sure sounds like an overheat.Water should be coming out of either a pee hole or a relief port on the leg.If it has a thermostat pull it and check it in hot water on the stove I think it should open about 145.You can also check cooling by running it and then CAREFULLY feel the head
It should be too hot to hold your hand on but not so hot it burns you.BE CAREFUL.
Overheating to the point of stopping is very hard on a motor.
