engine magnets?

I was told that my 1993 Sea Rayder will not start because a magnet broke up & relocated itself outside it's customary location, that I need a new starter, carb work due to leaking gas? The mechanic left the ?top? off and I noticed other magnets are starting to bead up.

I had all three carbs ?redone? that cost me right at $400 and only had the boat out once on them. Do I need them completely redone for real?

Can't I just buy replacement magnets that I have located on a web site that sells magnets, and place them myself and put the top back on and be done with it?

I don't understand why my ignition needs replacing since the main problem appears to be the magnets.
