Measure the voltage across the battery terminals
with the motor running at about 1500 rpm.Should measure about 14 volts. If you don't know the age of the impeller you should replace it.It is cheap insurance for the life of your motor.
A way to check how hot the motor gets you can run the motor and CAREFULLY feel the head.It should be too hot to hold your hand on but not so hot it burns you.CAREFUL
Your motor may have a thermostat as well.
