If you're not going to drain the fuel, use fuel stabilizer and run the engine for 20 minutes to make sure the stabilizer's made it from the tank to the carb.
If it'll be extended storage, pull the plugs and spray the cylinders with fogging oil.
Drain and refill the gearcase with SAE90 hypoid gear oil. Look for signs of water (milky oil) and debris.
Make sure all lower drain holes are clear so that excess water does not stay in the leg.
Store the motor upright, on a stand, not on the skeg.
Other maintenance items to consider, but not necessary: Clean or replace and gap plugs, replace impeller, install a carb kit.
