Maintenance, maintenance, maintenance.

The only stories I hear about VRO reliability are oil pump failures on ill-maintained engines; and they're just that -- stories. I can't comment about cause, but when the pump goes and you don't listen to the warning buzzer, your engine goes.

So, you have 2 choices:

o Use regular maintenence to keep the oil injection system in good shape, including replacing the pump, and pay attention to the buzzer or,
o Disable the pump, plug the inlet and mix your fuel at 50:1.

In either case, tell whomever is worrying you to give you some facts and data about failures -- it's ignorance that breeds rumors that cause people to worry unnecessarily.
