I have a 1976 14 foot runabout - I am running a 60hp 3 cylinder Johnson and it works fine with 2 or more people on-board. With only 1 person it is only good in less than 3 inch ripples otherwise it's a pain in the butt. It is rated for a 40 but it should be noted that the original transom was raised by a good 8 inches to accomodate the long shaft motor... It burns, no word of a lie way less gas than most boats out there so I guess it is the right engine choice. I also have a huge 14 by 17 prop which helps...
