The early four cylinder Mercs used a Fairbanks-Morse magneto. Later Mercury (Kiekhaefer) made their own magnetos. By the time the first Merc 500 was made they were all Mercury made. Any magneto with a 4D# is Mercury made. The coils and condenser are interchangable on all the 4D magnetos. The 4D2 thru 4D5 mags used the same caps and rotors. The 4D1 mag had a different cap. There were two diferent styles of points used. One had two hold down screws and the other had only one hold down screw. They are not interchangable so check to see which you have.
