Electronic ignition conversion kits

I was thinking of putting one of those electronic ignition kits that eliminate the points and condenser into my Eska 5hp. I have an older-than-dirt Jonsereds chainsaw that I put one in, and honestly it ran like a completely different saw afterwards..i.e. started easily, more reliable, etc.
Do these kits do any long-term damage to the magneto, or other ignition components?
