? how to wire a kill switch on an '85 Johnson 15hp ?

i just bought a kill switch and need confirmation on the propper way to wire. I can see where the ground comming from the "stop button" (on the motor) is mounted to the block so I assume that will fit into the equasion some how. The switch I have has a positive and negative (red & black) wire outgoing. Do I discomect the ground from the block and connect it to one of the wires on the switch and then connect the other wire from the switch back to the block or am I totally off base. I'm no mechanic or electrician, I'm trying to use common sense with the help of some of you experts, any info and or details would be appriciated. Thanks
