One wire off the kill switch goes to ground as you stated. The other wire goes back to the ign harness. This black wire connects to the power pack (CDI Ign. Box) wiring, and when the path is completed by pushing in the kill button (or in your case, turning the switch ON), the ign is killed.

Doesn't matter which wire (red or black) of your switch is connected to the block or to the wire in the ign harness. All it's doing is providing the path to ground.

You can attach the grounded side of the switch to the exising point or at one of the bolts that hold the coil to the block. Some of the motor's wiring is grounded there, anyway.

Position your switch such that when it's UP the switch is in the OFF position (open circuit); and when it's down, it's in the (ON) position (circuit made). This will correspond to the motor being shut off when the switch is down, and able to be run when the switch is up.
