5HP Sea King, got it running, water pump?

I posted earlier on this engine, I found some coils on ebay and after instaling them she fired up on the first pull!!! It runs smoothly and sounds sweet, I had the prop end in a 5gal bucket and water was spitting out of the louvered area at first but then it stopped spitting an the motor seemed to get hot so I shut 'er down. I'm wondering what the routine is for checking the water pump. Thanks: Mike Dane
