First of all start with a service manual you will save time money and much frustration.
Your mator may be equipped and I quote
" magneto ignition,battery ignition with
flywheel mounted alternator,or "Magnapower"
capacitor discharge ignition." point gap is
.020,L4J plug at .030,UL18V surface gap plug is used with the CDI ignition.This info is from a
72 aftermarket manual so plug numbers may be
superceded.
