For the 60's vintatge Evinrude 6 hp motors, the model number is the clue to the year of manufacture. The first digit is the horsepower, the second is the year of manufacture, For example, model number 6702 was manufactured in 1967. It gets a little less simple for motors made in the 70's and beyond and in the 80's a totally different system was used. My list shows that manufacture of 6 hp Evinrudes began in 1965 except for models with an F prefix that were manufactured in 1928.
