trolling motor varible speed

I have a Motor Guide 40 lb thrust foot controlled trolling motor. It has 5 speeds. I would like to convert it to a varible speed as the lowest speed on mine is too fast to troll for cpappie. I fish a Lowe 16' john boat. I was wondering if someone made an item to attach to the power cord, if someone has plans that I could use or if Motor Guide sells a vairable speed switch to replace my 5 speed switch. Thanks
