In the beginning there was just the single pre-300 reel with half bail simply called the Mitchell. Later the Mitchell SaltWater, soon dubbed the 302, was added. When the C.A.P. was added the number system really got rolling, it got called the 304. For awhile there were just the 3 Mitchell reels 300, 302, & 304, the rest is history. Garcia, 1st in NYC then in Teanack, NJ were the US importer/distributor. For awhile paper, then foil, labels added the Garcia in front of the always engraved Mitchell. Ultimately the Garcia Mitchell trademark was unified into the familiar all engraved form. In foreign markets there were several other '1st names' for Mitchell reels.
