Lay the spring on a flat surface. The tang end that points out/away from the coil goes into the slot on the rotating head 1st. The tang end that points up engages in the hole in the bail arm. The unloaded position is well past the bail stop. You must carefully hold everything in place while tensioning the spring. That is, lifting/rotating the bail against the spring until it is resting against the bail stop as it should be in the closed position. Now hold it with one hand & get the screw in with the other.
