Yes, the handle screws off -- like Mr. Allen says -- backwards, which is clockwise as I see it, not counterclockwise like the Bluewater Cowboy says.
However, rather than trying to straighten it, I suggest getting a replacement. Bass Pro has a third party replacement (cat #21-392-707-00) for $8.94. You can check with the following for the Mitchell replacement,

My most recent information is that Pure Fishing is now the "factory repair/parts supplier" for Mitchell reels. My last contact with them a couple years ago indicated they had an extensive stock of current and discontinued Mitchell parts. Their address is 1900 18th St., Spirit Lake, IA 51360-1099, www.purefishing.com
Some of this list is old and you may not get a reply from some of them.
One added thought. I'm not sure how old your reel is, but the handles on the older ones had a spring lock to allow turning the part with the knob for storage. I thought it worked pretty neet. The more recent ones, including all the replacements I've seen have a nut on the end of the part with the knob. You loosen the nut to turn the handle around. If yours is the old type, you might want to go ahead and try to straighten it -- at least for display purposes. If you break it, you can always get a newer type for replacement or for use while fishing, even if you are sucessful in straightening your bent one.
